Triple Play Giants Championship

Red Blend

In baseball, triple plays are rare, but winning 3 World Series™ titles in 5 years is even more rare! In celebration of the 2014 World Series Champion™ San Francisco Giants,™ and just in time for Opening Day, Wattle Creek is releasing a limited edition World Series wine. The Triple Play Red is a luscious blend of Syrah (co-fermented with Viognier) and Petite Sirah from Sonoma’s Alexander Valley. Like the Giants, it’s yet another triumph from Northern California.

Tasting Notes

This blend opens initially with powerful aromas of sweet -ripe black berries, jammy wild berries, wilted rose, notes of mocha, dark chocolate and toasty undertones. The aromas evolve with air and patience, bringing to the forefront subtle, sweet, floral notes and a rich cherry scent.

This wine's flavor echoes the aromas, displaying ripe, juicy, vibrant wild berry and blackberries that are intense, concentrated and which saturate the palate. The tannins are soft and coat the mouth, while the fruit flavors lend a pleasant sweetness. The finish is long and persistent with wonderful dark berry and earth notes that carry on. Enjoy!

Vintage Notes:

The grapes were fermented warm and the tanks were pumped over 4-5 times a day for color and tannin extraction. A small amount of Viognier was co-fermented with the Syrah grapes, about 6%, to lift aromatics. The wines were gently drained from their skins and the balance of juice trapped in the skins was lightly pressed away. The resulting Syrah was aged and blended with a small amount of Petite Sirah prior to bottling. We put the free run wine (drained out of the fermenter and not pressed with the grapes) to all French Oak barrels. This Rhone inspired blend aged for 15 months in barrel before bottling.
