Fruit for our Napa Valley Zinfandel is a blend of two Zinfandel vineyards in St. Helena and Calistoga. The grapes were hand-picked and hand sorted before being gently pressed off early to preserve the bright fruit aromatics. The wine was then aged for 10 months in 25% new French oak. Tightly grained barrels yield their oak characteristics in a more deliberate fashion for a consistent, well-rounded aging process.
The 2017 vintage marked the end of a 5-year drought. Harvest began early at a normal pace in many regions, and then progressed rapidly during a heat wave in late August and early September. Grapes ripened gradually in the cooler temperatures arriving in mid- September. In October, wildfires arrived at the end of harvest when 90% of the grapes were already in. The fires challenged the entire community, but Napa community is resilient and continued to move forward with a profound appreciation for everything we have.
