Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Chardonnay
SKU: 1VOBMOW317

Voluptuous whites are richer in texture, thanks to riper fruit. Most are dry wines that feature the added flavor complexity of new oak barrel use, but a handful are lusciously-sweet late-harvested dessert wines.

FOOD PAIRING: Ideally suited to richer dishes and cooked foods, like GRILLED OR FRIED SEAFOOD, POULTRY & WHITE MEATS, plus dishes featuring BUTTER, ONIONS or NUTS.

Description

Around 10 kilometers south of Beaune there is a place on the Côte where three great Burgundy white wines meet. Compared to the steep slopes of the Côte de Nuits, Montrachet is surprising because although its name is a corruption of “Mont Rachet”, meaning “bald mountain,” it’s fairly flat and arid.

The grand cru white wine Bâtard-Montrachetis said to take its name from when the Seigneur of Montrachet divided his land between his two sons. One was a knight who fought the enemy during the Crusades. The other was illegitimate, hence the name of the cru Bâtard-Montrachet, located just above Montrachet.

Please note that this is an imported wine and cannot legally be shipped to GA, IA, IL, IN, LA, ME, MI, MO, MT, SD, VA or WV.

Tasting Notes
Aroma:

The nose offers weight.

Palate:

It is fabulous on the palate. It is a huge rich mouthful of fruit, with a deeply impressive and absolutely endless finish.

Winemaking
Vintage Notes:

Gaps in the vines have recently been replanted. The plants are earthed up in the winter, and are sprayed with a nettle and rhubarb infusion, and preparations of horsetail and silica, tansy, sage, and yarrow. They are treated with biodynamic preparations 500 and 501 at the end of winter and in the spring, and again with 501 before flowering. They are thinned out in the spring.
