Our Chardonnay comes from two vineyards in Carneros which is a sub AVA of Napa. The first vineyard is on a gentle slope with sandy soils the other is on slightly heavier, clay-based soils. Although the vineyards are only 1.5 miles away from each other, there is a 3 week difference between their harvest dates due to the difference in the soil. The heavier soils allow for a gentle maturation which provides a richer mouthfeel while the sandy, sloped vineyard provides an aromatic lift. Together, the fruit harmonizes to great a well-balanced Chardonnay. The wine was 100% barrel fermented in a mix of Francois Frere and Baron oak barrels – 38% new – for 8 months before bottling. The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation with a mix of native and inoculated ferments.
