The grapes were hand-picked, sorted, and fermented, with multiple pump overs per day for color and tannin extraction. The wine was drained early, without extended maceration, preserving boosted fruit character. The varietals were vinified separately, aging in 100% French oak barrels for 18 months to mellow and soften the palate, and optimally integrate the oak. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz barrels were then hand-selected for the final blend to optimally balance power, fruit, spice and structure.

Tasting Notes

Dark fruit aromas layered with spice and eucalyptus greet the nose in this Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blend.

Juicy flavors of raspberry, plum and black cherry are balanced by notes of anise and black pepper. The rich mouthfeel and finely-integrated tannins are followed by a smooth finish.

Vintage Notes:

The 2017 vintage was marked by extreme conditions that reduced crop size, starting with abundant winter rainfall and mild spring weather, which led to vigorous vines. The growing season saw three heat spikes, including one over Labor Day weekend that kicked harvest into high gear with the grapes being harvested between September 20 and October 23.
