90 Points – 2013 Forgotten Vines Zinfandel
“Offers plump fruit and aromas of floral raspberry and toasty spice that combine with jammy cherry, licorice and cracked pepper flavors.” –TF
In honor of the many old Zinfandel vineyards that were overlooked for decades in Sonoma County, our Forgotten Vines blend is comprised of several exemplary mature vineyards. These heritage vineyards were first planted in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the warmer reaches of the region.Aroma:
Opens brilliantly with bright fruit aromatics that are complemented by hints of warm spice and cocoa.Palate:
Flavors of blackberry, blueberry, currant, tobacco and milk chocolate envelope the palate and lead to an opulent, smooth finish.Vintage Notes:
Planted as field blends, Zinfandel is the primary varietal planted, but not the only varietal. Petite Sirah, Carignane, Alicante Bouchet and even some native vines can also be found in some of the vineyards. The vineyards are harvested separately and remain separate throughout fermentation and aging until the final Forgotten Vines blend is crafted.
Following careful cluster sorting, the must is fermented in a combination of small French oak vats and stainless steel tanks. The wine is gently pressed off and aged in barrel, and the components are hand selected by our winemakers for exceptional richness, complexity and old-vine character.
