Biodynamic Sustainability

Vinocology Boisset Organics & Biodynamics

One of the key tenets of the Boisset family and its vineyards is a keen sense of responsibility for the land or terroir.  Since 1994, Boisset Collection Proprietor Jean-Charles Boisset has worked tirelessly to incorporate sustainable, organic and Biodynamic standards and processes into the family’s more than 20 vineyards in France and California.

The goal of sustainable farming is to create an environment where the land can be farmed in perpetuity while enhancing the quality of the soil and overall ecology of the farm. Since Jean-Charles and his sister Nathalie intend to pass the historic, Boisset family vineyards down to future generations, sustainability is non-negotiable.

This commitment to sustainability through organic and Biodynamic farming clearly distinguishes Boisset vineyards and wines from other winemakers. No chemical herbicides or pesticides are used, water and energy are conserved and external resources are rarely necessary, as the vineyards have evolved into self-sustaining operations.

The result? The company has reduced its carbon footprint by nearly half while bringing the value and convenience of high quality wine to you, the wine lover.

When you visit a Boisset vineyard, you will see organic and Biodynamic farming in action. The vineyards operate in a biologically diverse ecosystem – or the Theater of Nature

The Theater of Nature in Action

If you happen to visit Boisset's Raymond Vineyards in the Napa Valley, there you will find a two-acre educational exhibit that brings the Theater of Nature to life. This living exhibit illustrates how the different “actors” – the soil, the plants, the animals, the Vineyardist – each serve a crucial role and together bring synergy to the craft of quality, sustainable wine making.

The story of the Theater of Nature is explained in five acts. To learn more about the “actors” and the roles they play in the ecosystem of sustainable farming, click on the various acts below.

Working toward 100% Solar!

Boisset Collection states its California wineries, Raymond Vineyards and DeLoach Vineyards, will be 100 percent solar powered with the completion of solar installations this summer; and Raymond Vineyard’s Napa Valley estate vineyards in Rutherford and St. Helena became certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers and certified biodynamic by Demeter USA.

Adherence to organic and biodynamic farming practices is a hallmark of Boisset properties worldwide, and Jean-Charles Boisset, proprietor of Raymond Vineyards, began implementing organic and biodynamic farming practices soon after purchasing the winery in August 2009.
